Desert Blossoms

As a transplant to Arizona, it took me many years to be able to see, understand and appreciate the beauty of the desert.  Eventually I learned if you are patient the weeds will blossom, the green skinned Palo Verde explodes with yellow, the heat seems to brighten the multi-colored bougainvillea, Oleander is poisonous and prolific and bears flowers year round, the Red Bottle Brush is beautiful next to the Lantana and that winters here are beautiful.  I also learned that the proper word for the plural of cactus is CACTI.  Ya, I always feel like I am trying to be a know-it-all when I say, “Did you see the cacti on the corner?” or “Hey, be careful by the cacti.”

Anyways, like I said, it took me a long time to appreciate the desert.  My niece, on the other hand has recently moved here with her hubby and kids and totally threw me off when she requested a “Desert Style” background for pictures.  I love that she loves it already!  And I am totally going to teach her kids to say “Cacti” so they can sound smart like me.

By the way, did you know that CACTI have beautiful blossoms?

So does my niece and nephew.  Just look how cute they are!
