Desert Blossoms

As a transplant to Arizona, it took me many years to be able to see, understand and appreciate the beauty of the desert.  Eventually I learned if you are patient the weeds will blossom, the green skinned Palo Verde explodes with yellow, the heat seems to brighten the multi-colored bougainvillea, Oleander is poisonous and prolific and bears flowers year round, the Red Bottle Brush is beautiful next to the Lantana and that winters here are beautiful.  I also learned that the proper word for the plural of cactus is CACTI.  Ya, I always feel like I am trying to be a know-it-all when I say, “Did you see the cacti on the corner?” or “Hey, be careful by the cacti.”

Anyways, like I said, it took me a long time to appreciate the desert.  My niece, on the other hand has recently moved here with her hubby and kids and totally threw me off when she requested a “Desert Style” background for pictures.  I love that she loves it already!  And I am totally going to teach her kids to say “Cacti” so they can sound smart like me.

By the way, did you know that CACTI have beautiful blossoms?

So does my niece and nephew.  Just look how cute they are!

What A Great Dane! {Arizona Pet Photographer: Great Dane}

Where do I start?  Okay, I have never been this close to a Great Dane before and was a little worried that her size might intimidate me.  Considering she is still a pup and she will keep growing until she is three and despite that she is on the small side for her breed, she is an enormous dog compared to my little Yorkie  Poo, Mango.  I pictured Scout being all thumbs and long legs and a little on the clumsy side.  But, oh heavens, she moved like the beauty of slow motion, purposeful and with the grace of royalty and not the spazzy fast forward warp speed of our little fur ball.  I think I might like another princess at my house.  But Pricess Ula Bula Mango Bango the Third says this is a one princess house.  Dang it!  Good thing Scout lives in the next town over.

They have shared many milestones together and this day was another.  Within about a week of each other, the got their braces off!!!!  Just look at those beautiful smiles!
